Community Projects

Our Community Projects have been aimed at improving the social, economic and environmental conditions within Tanop Village and the surrounding communities.

An obvious lack of access to water was the main problem we encountered in 2007. One of our first initiatives was to construct three large community dams to supply and address the dire water shortages that were part and parcel of life for the families in Tanop Village and the surrounding communities. In 2024, water access is now plentiful.

In 2007, most of our villagers lacked access to toilets. We realised disease and environmental problems through lack of sanitation hindered economic development. We helped villagers build simple toilets, and we noticed because of these improvements in sanitary habits, preventable illness resulting from the previous open defecation in surrounding rice fields was reduced.

Besides the lack of water, access and proper sanitation, poor access to a quality education had always been a big issue, and this education access was very importantly needed as the main catalyst for the futures of the village children and their families. A vibrant learning hub was built with sheltered classrooms providing an informative and supportive learning environment for enthusiastic students.

In 2006, when we first met with the Village Chief, Khut Kan, he had suggested we introduce English language classes into our syllabus, as it was realised that if children could speak English, they would have wonderful career opportunities open to them. This we did!

We hold regular community meetings where villagers can openly discuss any concerns they have about village issues, and also where they can suggest ideas for further projects to further enhance their standard of living. An important part of this initiative is for them to give us progress reports on those projects already initiated by us.
